Cruise Day 4: Nassau, Bahamas

The day in Nassau port was a long one and full of excitement. We were up early in order to catch our excursion which was supposed to be Sailing, Kayaking in clear kayaks, and snorkeling. Unfortunately that excursion was canceled but we had time to run back into the ship and reserve a spot on a sailing and snorkeling excursion with no extra cost. We sailed for quite awhile on a catamaran until we reached the reef and then we snorkeled for an hour. It was amazing as soon as we entered the water we were greeted by a school of brightly colored striped fish. All pictures were taken on a disposable waterproof camera and have yet to be developed. Look for a later post with those pictures. After snorkeling we sailed back and headed to the ship for lunch.

After lunch on board we returned to Nassau for some shopping. I think that I enjoyed this trip the most, because as suggested by my home teacher I bartered with the locals. Here I am in my latest purchase, a straw hat marked down $3 from the original price. I don't think we paid full price for anything in Nassau and I could have staid in the market all day bartering if money and time allowed.

More beautiful beaches although we didn't go swimming. Instead we hiked a short distance (uphill and in very hot weather) to Fort Charlotte. I think the locals thought we were crazy for doing it, but they were happy because they were able to sell us some water.

More cannon photos above.

There were five cruise liners including ours in port that day. Carnival Fascination, Carnival Imagination, Royal Norwegian Cruise Lines Norwegian Sky, A Disney ship, and Monarch of the Seas. It was a busy day in Nassau.

While at the fort we stumbled upon the US Woman's World Champion Rugby team practicing.
We also watched a young boy quickly climb a tree to harvest coconuts.

Next we took a ferry to Paradise Island. Our tour guide was more than happy to point out the homes of famous people. This small seaside cabin is famous for its appearance in a Bond Film. We didn't catch which one so if any of you Bond buffs know please tell us.
Atlantis is a themed resort that covers much of Paradise Island. They have several hotel towers, a water park, beaches, and a museum where you can see their marine wildlife swimming through glass walls.
Most exhibits cost money but they were more than happy to let us walk around their casino and outside exhibits. We couldn't see the fish through the glass walls but we could observe them from the surface.
Here are some small stingrays.
And a really large Manta ray.

After returning to our ship we enjoyed dinner and then went to a show. The show featured another comedian and a world famous juggler. They were both amazing. It was really enjoyable. After the show we had a great dance party. There was cha-cha, line dancing, a 200 person conga line, a foxtrot song and a waltz. We enjoyed dancing (sometimes by ourselves). It was a long day but a very memorable one filled with lots of excitement.
